Mary Johnson’s Grandmother’s recipe (1890)
Ingredients
- 10oz butter
- 10oz sugar
- 10oz flour
- 5 eggs
- Small carton of cream (approx. 4fluid oz)
- 1lb currants
- 8oz mixed peel
- 1oz cherries
- 1oz ground almonds
- 1oz ground almonds chopped
Method
- Cream butter and sugar and add the beaten eggs one at a time.
- Add the flour slowly and then the cream.
- Stir in all the other ingredients.
- Bake for six hours at 250F or 110-120C. Mary Johnson
