Film Around Richmondshire

AiR

Position filled

AiR (Arts in Richmondshire) was launched three years ago as the area’s arts development agency.

An independent company limited by guarantee, it receives funding from Arts Council England and Richmondshire District Council to implement the district’s arts strategy.

This includes a strong commitment to the support and development of creative industries.

We have achieved a lot in our first few years:

  • Launched a local promoters support programme encouraging and helping village halls and community venues stage high quality professional performances.
  • Staged a community play ‘ Last Dance of a Dalesman’
  • Commissioned a contemporary dance piece, inspired by the area, to tour the district, promoted by local venues, with a supporting programme of workshops.
  • Held support and development events and forums for all arts sectors

For the last year we have received additional funding for a project enabling us to set up and run a film screening scheme showing top quality films in community venues around the district .This scheme, Film Around Richmondshire, has staged some 100 screenings in approximately 25 venues in its first year, showing everything from ‘The Aviator’ to ‘Wallace and Gromit and The Curse of The Were Rabbit’. The co-ordinator for the scheme is now moving on, taking time out to travel the waterways of Britain (lucky thing!)

The Co-ordinator

The scheme uses top quality projection and sound equipment using DVD and video players, which although of excellent quality is easy to operate and is remarkably portable (it can all fit into a hatchback)

The scheme shows films on a large, portable screen, (8’ x 6’, or 12’ x 9’), through a very high quality projector and an excellent sound system.

In partnership with The Elite Cinema Leyburn we offer a variety of films for people to book – current releases, old classics, children’s films, archive footage etc.

Using the Elite as the focal point for the scheme, we and are developing audiences across the district, strategically collaborating with other arts agency’s such as Rural Arts North Yorkshire.

We employ ‘projectionists’ to take out the equipment to the venues (usually village halls), set it up and screen the films. We collaborate closely with the local promoter who chooses the film, sells the tickets, publicises it and is responsible for staging the event.

The co-ordinator, with our support and assistance from The Elite, is required to set up and run the project, co-ordinating and organising screenings, liaising with promoters, engaging projectionists, developing audiences, as well as encouraging film making opportunities.

Application packs for P/T Co-ordinator post from:

Application Closing Date: 31st March – interviews 10 April

Projectionist

  • Interested in films?
  • Like to share your interest with others?
  • Would you like to be involved screening films around the district?

AiR (Arts in Richmondshire) in association with The Elite Cinema Leyburn is launching Film Around Richmondshire, a film touring scheme, taking films out and about to village halls and community venues.

Utilising the latest DVD technology, the films will be screened on large portable screens (12ft x 9ft, or 8ft x 6ft) with a high quality projector and speaker system.

We’re looking for people who would like to work on a part time, occasional basis to screen the films in the different venues; setting up and operating the equipment. It’s not especially difficult to operate and full training in its use will be provided. You’ll collaborate with local organisers at each venue to ensure the events are run to a high standard of presentation

You’ll need to:

  • be physically capable of lifting and handling the equipment own and drive a car or vehicle into which the equipment will fit
  • be able to work evenings and weekends
  • ideally get a buzz out of films!
  • You’ll be paid £7.50 per hour, plus travel costs and have a chance to show and enjoy lots of top quality films!
  • telephone 01969 625142
  • email: air.office@virgin.net

Anyone wanting to apply to screen the films on DVD and/or Video should apply in writing with any relavant information and with a CV to
