Woodhall is a small hamlet between Askrigg and The Village Of Carperby in the parish of Askrigg.
The village is split level with the top part of the village built along Nappa Scar. Lower Woodhall is accessed by Low Lane into the village and then branches East to Woodhall Park and West to the rest of the village.
There are two lakes in Woodhall. One of which is a medieaval fish pond, the other an ornamental lake. Both lakes are on private land.
Farewell to Tom Keartons traction engine
Woodhall is very much a working village. We are well supplied with electricians, joiners, farmers, a steel fabrication workshop, a small garden nursery, and a petrol station and garage workshop.
We also have an artist (Darrel Stokes)who paints in watercolours, smoked glass techniques etc. His work can be viewed at the gallery at the bottom of Hawes town.
Unfortunately the local pub the Miners Arms was demolished many years ago.
Andrew Craske’s (Woodhall) traction engine. A beauty isn’t she!!
